CALAS 2024: A Letter to Our Members and Visitors

Greetings all!

We hope that each of you are enjoying your January so far! I can’t believe the month is almost over!

Truck and I want to thank each of you for being so supportive of CALAS this past year. Your participation, presence, donations and kind words have always meant and continue to mean a great deal to us.

We heard so many expressions of appreciation and kindness. It does help both of us want to carry on with our work in Second Life for as long as we are able. Seeing so many engaged in exploring the Park sims as well as our special builds like SHADOWFELL & A CALAS CHRISTMAS 2023 brought a smile to our hearts. What a wonder to see so many sleighs, balloons and skaters this December!

As most of you know CALAS has entered its 15th year in Second Life. Many of you, including our staff, have been with us for most of that time. We were so excited as we carved out those first 3 sims and opened with ‘A Country Victorian Christmas’ in 2009. Our goal at the time was to create not only a unique and natural virtual environment in Second Life, but a ‘community’ as well. We feel we’ve accomplished that and then some.

Truck and I were … well … over a decade and a half younger than we are now. The desire to create and carry on with our work in SL remains but health & other RL concerns are raising their hands ever more vigorously. While finances do play a major part for Truck and I in keeping the regions up and running, sitting at a computer for hours is no longer possible for us or the staff, most of which have been with us for over 12 years.

What does this mean for our CALAS GALADHON PARK regions?

  • In February we are cutting back on our number of live music events. While the shows provide a large percentage of the monthly donations and much of the enjoyment of having some time to share with our CALAS family and visitors, they also come at a cost for ourselves and the staff in time, energy and health.
  • While we do plan to continue our special season builds as we are able, we do have to start thinking about downsizing the park this year.

We’ve not decided how many, which regions or the exact timing when the change may occur. We do know that taking on tenants to help cover the costs is not an option for us. We’ll work to come up with a plan in the next few months. Each of our Park regions are our ‘kids’ … each special to us in their own way. It’s not an easy decision to make but at this time a necessary one.

We know that you have your favorites as well.

While we can’t promise anything, we hope to keep more than the original CALAS GALADHON, DIMRILL DALE, MIRROMERE AND GULF OF LUNE regions. With this in mind, we’d value your input on which of the remaining regions you’d like to see stay and WHY.

To make sure we hear from you we ask that you put your wishes in a NOTECARD and send to either Truck Meredith or Tymus Tenk.

We’ll keep you informed on decisions as they are made.

Again, thank you for your support … in so many ways … over the past years!

We look forward to seeing you around the park or at one of our events.

Best wishes.
Ty & Truck

  3. We love you both, as well as all the Calas family. We only want what is best for you. Though our avies are forever young, beautiful and vibrant, we have all grown older together. You two have brought us so much joy and magic. Take it down to whatever you need to, to be able to enjoy it with us. It is both of YOU we refuse to lose!

I know I speak for Bill as well. You’ve been such a big part of our lives and love in this wonderful world.

Be proud of what you built, and the gifts you’ve given to so many. It is all pure MAGIC.

    Love,
    Bill and Cia
